Climate Justice in Action: Empowering Young Changemakers at Kamenu Secondary School

On 19th July 2025, the AfriYouth Care Group visited Kamenu Secondary School in Nairobi, Kenya, for a powerful and purpose-driven mentorship session centered on climate justice and youth-led climate action.

The session brought together students from various classes, with a special focus on the school’s Environmental Club. Here, we introduced the foundational concepts of climate change, climate justice, and the critical need for youth involvement in climate solutions. Our engagement emphasized that climate change is not just an environmental issue, but a justice issue, one that disproportionately affects vulnerable communities who contribute the least to the crisis.

The students' curiosity and passion were truly energizing. They asked insightful questions, shared their concerns about their local environment, and showed a strong desire to take action. It was a clear reminder that young people are not just future leaders—they are current leaders in the fight for a just and sustainable world.

To mark the occasion, we planted trees with the students living symbol of hope, sustainability, and commitment to a greener future.

Most exciting of all, the school administration has agreed to launch a series of climate literacy and climate justice training sessions for Environmental Club members. This partnership will ensure that the momentum continues and that students are equipped with the knowledge and tools to be climate champions in their school and beyond.
